The Christmas Appeal has gone virtual
Almost 10,000 homeless people will receive a “Santa box” filled with Christmas gifts this week after a charity successfully overcame Covid-19 challenges to run its annual appeal virtually.
Inner City Helping Homeless asked the public for shoebox donations and the response was incredible.

Welcome Wave
When children in Direct Provision in Ireland were given the opportunity to go surfing, they couldn’t wait.
Since 2018 Welcome Wave has shared our ocean and the unique joy of surfing with disadvantaged children living in Direct Provision Centres in Cork City and Clonakilty. They have brought over 30 children between the ages of eight and eighteen, for four surf therapy sessions each September to Inchydoney Beach in West Cork.

Save Kiltyclogher
The locals in Kiltyclogher, which has a population of approximately 223 people, were concerned that the village’s two-teacher primary school will be reduced to one teacher if it does not reach the 15-pupil quota by September. If that happens, the community is worried that it may eventually close.
The community started up a campaign to "Save Kiltyclogher" and try and get more families to move there.

Remembering Ann
Cork is a sadder place without Ann Downey Spillane. She had an incredible fighting spirit. Nothing was ever an obstacle.
Ann was the founder of The Girl’s Club Cork, a home away from home for women and the people around them touched by cancer.
Following Ann’s own diagnosis and treatment, she became aware of the need for a community in which women could support each other with ideas, advice and positivity.
Since it has opened its door's the now called Cork Cancer Care Centre continues to provide vital support to all those touched by Cancer.

In the Direct Provision system, 4,300 people seeking asylum in Ireland are denied the right to work and the right to cook. Adults in Direct Provision are given an allowance of just €19.10 per week and €15.60 per week per child.
This cruel and unnecessary system needs to end, but in the meantime, Our Table is advocating for the rights of people in Direct Provision to cook for themselves and their families.

Super Gran - Maureen Armstrong
Super Gran, Maureen Armstrong’s lust for life is contagious around her native home in Drombane, Co. Tipperary. She isn’t a woman that waits around for things to happen, she embraces life with both open arms. In 2018, It will be her 23rd time taking part in the iconic Dublin event raising vital funds for cancer research. Maureen will be the oldest participant in the Women's Mini-Marathon.
